K.K.Sidha Assigned Additional Charge of Director Libraries, J&K

Srinagar, Dec 05 (NVI): In a recent administrative order issued by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Kuldeep Krishan Sidha, JKAS, who currently serves as the Director of Archives, Archaeology, and Museums, has been assigned the additional charge of Director Libraries, J&K.

The assignment comes in the wake of Shri Sheikh Arshad Ayub, IAS (AGMUT:2013), proceeding on deputation to the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, from December 2 to December 27, 2024.

The decision, communicated through Government Order No. 2044-JK(GAD) of 2024, aims to ensure the smooth functioning of the Directorate of Libraries during the interim period.—(News Vibes of India)

Two-Day Training Programme on NDPS Act Begins in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 05 (NVI): A two-day training programme on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was inaugurated today at the Police Control Room (PCR) in Srinagar.

The event, organized by the Zonal Police Headquarters (ZPHQ) Kashmir in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jammu & Kashmir, was kickstarted by IGP Kashmir, V.K Birdi (IPS).

During his inaugural address, IGP Kashmir, VK Birdi highlighted the critical role of enforcing the NDPS Act in addressing the rising challenges of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the region. He stressed the importance of specialized training for officers to enhance their investigative skills, awareness, and ability to implement actionable strategies in combating the drug menace.

Raj Kumar Shah, Superintendent of NCB Jammu, led the NCB team and provided detailed insights into investigative procedures related to NDPS cases. The training aims to empower law enforcement officers with practical knowledge and tools to strengthen their response to drug-related issues.

The two-day programme includes interactive sessions, discussions, and hands-on training, marking a significant step towards curbing drug abuse and trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir.(News Vibes of India)

Two terror associates arrested in South Kashmir’s Qazigund

Srinagar, Dec 05 (NVI): Security Forces arrested two terror associates and also recovered arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles from them in Lower Munda area of Qazigund in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, official sources said today.

A senior police officer told NVI that during a naka check, two terror associates were arrested and recovery was made at Gulab Bagh near Lower Munda area of Qazigund.

He said that recovered items include two AK-47 rifles; four magazines and some rounds.

Meanwhile, police have been registered a case and further investigations are underway, the officer added.—(News Vibes of India)

J&K sets up CM’s public services outreach office for effective grievance redressal

Srinagar, Dec 05(NVI):: Jammu and Kashmir government has announced the establishment of the ‘Chief Minister’s Public Services and Outreach Office’ under the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to ensure effective grievance redressal and timely public service delivery through active citizen engagement.

The initiative sanctioned under Government Order aimed at enhancing governance efficiency and strengthening the connection between the administration and the public.

The newly established office will have two central wings, each headed by a Special Secretary or Additional Secretary to the government.

Grievance Redressal Wing (Raabita): This wing will focus on resolving public grievances, ensuring efficient service delivery, and monitoring the performance of regional and district grievance offices.

Public Outreach & Evaluation-cum-Feedback Wing: This wing will spearhead citizen engagement through outreach programs, monitor the Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA), gather feedback on governance, and recommend improvements to government initiatives.

To streamline operations, the office will utilize an integrated online grievance portal, building on the existing Samadhan Portal, with the Information Technology Department tasked with implementing the required modifications within 15 days. The hybrid communication approach will include both online platforms, such as social media and helplines, and offline methods, including public interaction and district-level meetings.

Additionally, the office will collect feedback and suggestions from citizens through online and offline platforms to drive continuous improvement in governance and service delivery. Further details regarding staffing and other operational modalities will be finalized by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.— (News Vibes of India)

Will hold fresh talks with PM & HM, over Statehood restoration : Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Dec 5 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today his government has to fight a long battle for statehood restoration in Jammu and Kashmir while as they would hold fresh talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah over the issue.

. Speaking to reporters here, Omar said that the demand for statehood was non-negotiable. “We are fighting a long battle,” he said.

He also sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had previously stated that it could not appease Muslims. “While they can’t appease us, they must not threaten or target us for practicing our religion,” Omar said, condemning the attacks on religious sites, including shrines, masjids in various parts of the country. He added,”This is not the India our forefathers fought for or envisioned,” highlighting his concerns about the growing communal divide and religious intolerance under the current government. Proposal to restore Dec 5 as Holiday in Memory of Sheikh Abdullah sent to LG office: Nasir Aslam Wani

Srinagar, Dec 05(NVI) :Advisor to Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Nasir Aslam Wani today said that a formal proposal has been sent by the Council of Ministers to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, seeking the reinstatement of December 5 as a public holiday to honor the anniversary of the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.

This day was cancelled as the holiday by LG administration in recent years.

During his visit to the grave of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah at Hazratbal, Wani expressed optimism that the holiday will be restored by next year. “The proposal has already been submitted to the LG’s office and we hope the people of Jammu and Kashmir will once again observe this important day,” he said.

Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, the founder of the National Conference (NC), is remembered for his pivotal role in the political history of the J&K.

Wani said Sheikh played a significant role in liberating Jammu and Kashmir from autocratic rule, shaping its political identity and securing fundamental rights, such as the freedom of speech for the people. Wani paid his respects to Sheikh acknowledging the lasting impact of his leadership and his transformative influence on the J&K’s modern history. Meanwhile, NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah didn’t speak to the media at the mausoleum of Sheikh. They left soon after paying respects to Sheikh. J&K Police Seize Two Vehicles Linked to Drug Trade in Srinagar

Srinagar, Dec 05 (NVI): Continuing its relentless battle against the growing menace of drugs in the Valley, J&K Police have seized two vehicles allegedly acquired through the illegal means of the narcotics trade.

Police said the vehicles, a Toyota Corolla (registration number DL4CNE-6086) and a BMW (registration number JK01AF-0047), were confiscated in connection with FIR No. 36/2024 under Section 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Chanapora.

The accused, Mudasir Ahmad Wani, son of Gulam Rasool Wani from Stadium Colony, Chanapora, has been arrested in connection with the case.

The seizure was carried out under the provisions of Section 68 of the NDPS Act, allowing law enforcement to target the assets acquired through illegal narcotics trafficking. This move marks a significant step towards dismantling the infrastructure supporting the drug trade in the region.

The J&K Police reiterated its unwavering commitment to combatting the drug menace, stating its focus on not only curbing drug trafficking but also disrupting the network that enables such illegal activities. The police continue to encourage public cooperation and vigilance as they work towards eradicating drug-related issues in society.

Suspected terrorist movement near LoC in J&K, Army starts operation

Srinagar, Dec 5 (NVI): Indian troops opened fire and launched a massive search operation near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Bagyaldara village of Poonch district of Jammu after suspected terrorist movement was noticed in the area.

Defence sources told NVI that the operation began early this morning when an attempt by terrorists to infiltrate across the heavily guarded LoC was sensed.

In response, the Army initiated a precautionary action, firing on the suspected movement to neutralize the potential threat.

Following the gunfire exchange, a massive cordon-and-search operation was launched in the surrounding areas. Armed personnel and local security forces have been deployed to thoroughly comb the region, which is known for its rugged terrain and dense vegetation, making it an ideal route for infiltration attempts.

The village of Bagyaldara, located in close proximity to the LoC, has been a hotspot for similar operations in the past. The Army has blocked all access points and is conducting house-to-house searches to ensure the militants do not evade capture. Civilian movement in and around the area has been restricted and residents have been advised to stay indoors for their safety. (NVI)

The majestic Zojila Pass emerged as the coldest spot of the night at a staggering -18.0°C. Night temperatures in areas like Shopian were (-5.5°C), Pahalgam (-5.3°C) and Sonamarg (-4.9°C) offered no respite as the mercury dropped further, freezing streams.

The picturesque meadows of Pulwama (-5.0°C) and Anantnag (-5.0°C) glistened under a thin frost, while urban hubs like Srinagar (-2.1°C) and Baramulla (-2.0°C) faced biting cold winds. The ski paradise of Gulmarg (-3.6°C) continued to attract adventurers, braving the sub-zero temperatures for its powdery snow and pristine slopes.

In the Jammu region, winter’s chill was less severe but evident in high-altitude areas. Padder (-4.3°C) in the upper reaches recorded the coldest temperature, while the hill stations of Bhaderwah (1.0°C) and Banihal (1.2°C) shivered through frosty mornings. The plains of Jammu (8.6°C) and Kathua (8.7°C) provided a slight reprieve, though the cool breeze left residents bundling up in woolens.

Meanwhile, Ladakh, known for its harsh winters, upheld its reputation. Kargil (-9.8°C) and Leh (-9.6°C) saw temperatures nosedive, their barren landscapes wrapped in icy stillness.
