New Delhi (NVI): The Ministry of Power today advised all states and union territories in the country to ensure uninterrupted availability of 24×7 and reliable power supply at all vaccine cold chain storage points and session sites in their respective regions, in the wake of ongoing Covid-vaccination drive.

The Power Ministry, in a letter addressed to Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary (Power/Energy) of all States/UTs, advised them to keep alternate standby power supply to deal with any contingencies.

“Government of India has been proactively taking all necessary steps for carrying out all necessary activities for the nationwide roll-out of COVID-19 vaccine w.e.f 16.01.2021 in close collaboration with all the States/UTs and all stakeholders,” read the letter.

“Further, all States/UTs are advised to also keep alternate standby power supply to deal with any contingencies,” it said.

“A critical element for success of the immunization drive would be the uninterrupted supply of reliable electricity at the vaccine cold chain storage points and session sites. Any kind of power cuts can have an adverse impact on the entire immunization drive.”

“Hence, all States/UTs are advised to ensure uninterrupted availability of 24×7 and reliable power supply at all the vaccine cold chain storage points and session sites in their respective regions,” the letter said.

Notably, India has approved two Covid vaccines for its immunisation drive across the country- Covishield and Covaxin. The good news is that the Indian vaccines need to be stored only at 2-8 degrees Celsius, unlike the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines which require a minus 70-degree Celsius (cold) chain.

NTPC Group achieved highest ever Day Gross Generation of 1008.5 MU on 18th Jan’21,” the power corporation said in a tweet, adding that the big achievement reinforces the group’s commitment towards excellence in operation across its power stations.

NTPC’s oldest unit, which was commissioned 38 years ago at Singrauli in Uttar Pradesh, has achieved the highest Plant Load Factor (PLF) among all thermal units in the country between April 2020 to December 2020.

Apart from that, the NTPC Group has also achieved highest gross generation of 222.4 Billion Unit (BU) from April to December 2020, an increase of 3.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Concurrently, NTPC coal power stations have maintained high availability of 92.21 percent from April 2020 to December 2020 as against 87.64 percent during the same period last year, the Ministry of Power said in an official statement.

Sajad Lone’s party People’s Conference pulls out of J&K Gupkar Alliance

Sajad Lone

Srinagar (NVI): In a major jolt to the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) in Jammu and Kashmir, People’s Conference chairperson Sajad Lone today announced his party’s exit from the Gupkar Alliance.

Sajad Lone made the declaration through a letter that he sent to PADG president Dr Farooq Abdullah.

Pertinent to mention here, that the Gupkar alliance, an amalgamation of Kashmir parties like People’s Democratic Party, National Conference and CPM, had won a majority in the recently held District Development Council (DDC) polls in J&K. The Congress had given outside support to PAGD.

“On the face of it, PAGD won these elections unambiguously having won the maximum number of seats. We can’t hide statistics and apart from the number of seats that PAGD won, other important statistical variable in the context of August 5 is the number of votes polled against the PAGD.

“We believe that the votes polled against the PAGD are majorly the votes cast by proxies of PAGD constituent parties against official PAGD candidates. And the net outcome of selectively voting for and against PAGD is a very poor vote share. This is certainly not the vote share that people of J and K deserved post August 5,” he said in a letter to Abdullah.

The PAGD alliance fought the local body elections on the poll plank of restoration of Article 370 that provided special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre had abrogated Article 370 in August 2019 and bifurcated the erstwhile J&K state into two Union Territories- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

The Farooq Abdullah-led seven-party coalition had won 110 seats. The BJP had won 75 seats and emerged as the single largest party. Also, in first-the ever victory for BJP in Kashmir, it won three seats in the Valley, in the recently held DDC polls. PAGD alliance was formed in October last year to fight back for special status of J&K.
