Video shows Chinese vehicles 'intrude' into Indian territory

Leh (NVI): A purported video that has gone viral shows two Chinese vehicles, apparently carrying PLA soldiers in plain clothes, crossing the International Border with India and entering Changthang area of Nyoma block in Leh district.

The video has surfaced amidst the military stand-off between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.


Ishey Spalzang, who represents the Nyoma constituency in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, said the incident reportedly occurred four-five days back. He said the Chinese raised objections to the local nomads allowing their livestock to graze in the area.

He said that due to the current standoff, nomads in the region are suffering immensely as they are unable to graze their livestock in these areas. “We can’t say whether the men in vehicles were soldiers or civilians but yes, they were Chinese who returned back after locals confronted them,” he said.

However, an official declined to comment on the issue saying he is not aware of the incident.

'Factually incorrect': India rejects Pak's allegations about targeting of UN vehicle

New Delhi (NVI): India today rejected allegations by Pakistan regarding Indian forces targeting a UN vehicle at the Line of Control (LoC) while saying that Islamabad should responsibly investigate its own lapses instead of repeating baseless and fabricated allegations against India.

“Allegations by Pakistan regarding Indian forces deliberately targeting a UN vehicle on 18 Dec 2020 have been investigated in detail and found to be factually incorrect and false. Our forward troops were aware of the visit of UN Military Observers in the area and did not conduct any firing as alleged,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

MEA said that instead of repeating baseless and fabricated allegations against India to cover up its own failure in ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel in territory under its control, Pakistan should responsibly investigate its lapses.

“India has conveyed its findings and views on these misrepresentations to the Pakistani side,” the Ministry said.

Pakistan had on Friday accused India of resorting to “unprovoked fire” in Chirikot Sector of LOC. Pakistani military spokesman Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar had tweeted photos of the UN vehicle apparently damaged while claiming that Indian troops “specifically targeted” the vehicle carrying two officers of the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) from across the LoC.

The fresh allegations by Pakistan came after its bizarre claims that India was planning another surgical strike.

CRPF trooper, civilian injured in grenade attack in South Kashmir

Anantnag (NVI): A CRPF jawan and a civilian were injured today after militants lobbed a grenade at a check post in Achabal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police officials said.

The militants also fired a few shots towards the forces personnel of CRPF’s 96 Battalion after lobbing the grenade, they said.

However, the CRPF troopers retaliated effectively, forcing the militants to flee from the spot.

A trooper identified as Samrat Gosh sustained injuries in the blast and was shifted to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.

The condition of the injured civilian, identified as shopkeeper Ishfaq Dalal, is also stable.

A search operation was launched immediately after the attack.

New Delhi (NVI): Amidst the chill between India and Pakistan, a one-year-old baby boy from the neighbouring country got a new life, as he successfully underwent a complex liver transplant at a hospital in Gurgaon.

Ahmed from Karachi, who turned 1 yesterday, had a special moment of life as his birthday was celebrated by the doctors at Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital after the operation.

Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin, Chairman at the Liver Transplant hospital shared the warm moment on Twitter. “No better time & place for little Ahmed from Karachi, Pakistan to celebrate his 1st birthday as he heads home after his liver transplant with us. Our call of duty to save lives cuts across all borders & conflict,” he tweeted.


Interestingly, Ahmed happens to be the 50th Pakistani baby whose life was saved at the hospital, according to Dr Soin.

“He will love watching this clip of our wholesome celebration of his 1st when he grows up..,” Dr Soin said in another tweet while sharing a video of Ahmed’s birthday celebrations at the hospital.

It is interesting to note that the liver transplant of the Pakistani boy has taken place amid the Covid-19 pandemic when certain travel restrictions are in place.

The relations between India and Pakistan soured recently after the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF soldiers and Islamabad’s growing friendship with China which is engaged in unprovoked military actions on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that have spiralled into a huge stand-off in Ladakh region.

Jammu (NVI): While hailing the people of Jammu and Kashmir for participating in the District Development Council (DDC) and Panchayat elections on a large scale, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today said that the UT administration fulfilled its promise of conducting free and fair elections.

The LG said that his administration had promised that the elections will be free and fair.

Addressing a press conference at Jammu, the LG said that paramilitary forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police played a key role in ensuring peaceful elections and they deserve appreciation.

“I was extremely happy to see people from every shade of society taking part in the recently concluded eight-phase District Development Council (DDC) polls which signifies people of J&K reposed trust in democracy to reap benefits at grassroots level,” Sinha said.

He said the poll percentage in these elections was high and it is a good sign for the growth of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. “Long queues were seen at polling stations and people irrespective of age and gender participated in these elections,” Sinha said, adding that a three-tier panchayat raj system already stands implemented in J&K.

“The 73rd and 74th amendments have already been incorporated into the J&K’s panchayat Raj Act, and it has made democracy vibrant at grass root level”, the LG said.

In response to a question, Sinha said his administration listened and tried to address the grievances of common men. “Our administrations’ initiative of listening to the grievances of people through ‘back to village’ programmes also resulted in reposing people’s faith in democratic set up.”

At the end of the press briefing, LG Sinha extended wishes to the people on New Year and Christmas. He said on December 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce a Health policy under which every family will be covered in Jammu and Kashmir.

Blast in Kabul kills 9, injures 6 including Afghan MP

New Delhi (NVI) At least nine people were killed and six others were left injured including a member of parliament in a powerful explosion that rocked Kabul city this morning, according to local media reports.

The blast took place in Spin Kalay square in PD5 of the city, reports TOLO news.

According to the Afghan Interior Ministry’s deputy spokesman, three vehicles caught fire in the area (PD5). However, it is unclear if the explosion is the cause, as per TOLO news.

The vehicle of Haji Khan Mohammad Wardak, a member of parliament from Kabul, was targeted in the blast. Wardak survived the attack and was shifted to a hospital for injuries.

On the other hand, the Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI) in a statement said that at least 8 people were killed and 15 were wounded in the explosion.

“The terrorists today carried out a terror attack in PD5 of Kabul city. Children, women and elderly people are among those wounded. Homes around the area have been severely damaged. Unfortunately, eight of our compatriots were martyred and 15 more wounded, including Khan Mohammad Wardak, a member of parliament. These numbers might change,” the ministry was quoted as saying by TOLO news.

Jammu (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Social Endeavour for Health and Telemedicine (SEHAT) scheme in Jammu and Kashmir on December 26, an official spokesperson here said.

Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo chaired a preliminary meeting here yesterday to review the progress for smooth implementation of SEHAT scheme, the spokesperson said.

At the meeting, Atal Dulloo instructed the officers to keep all arrangements in place for the effective roll out of the scheme. He told them that the process of card distribution should also be expedited so that maximum people take benefits out of this scheme.

The Financial Commissioner further directed the CMOs to expedite the process of registration under this scheme so that no family is left out from availing benefits. He asked the officers and CMOs to utilise the services of CSC operators effectively for the successful implementation of SEHAT scheme.

He also asked officers to make the public aware about the benefits of the scheme and utilise the outdoor publicity material like hoardings, banners and other things for generating maximum awareness among the masses.

On the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana, the Financial Commissioner directed the officers that all Indoor Patient Department (IPD) cases should be registered under this scheme besides COVID case patients should also be registered under this scheme.

Dulloo further asked the officers that the public should be facilitated for registering under Ayushman Bharat scheme so that maximum beneficiaries are registered under the scheme.

He asked the administrators and principals of different medical colleges to utilise the services of Arogya Mitras effectively so that maximum people are covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

He asked them to hire the Arogya Mitras as per the daily flow of the patients in the IPDs.

Dulloo also directed the MD JKMSCL to keep the medicines available for all the hospitals so that the public doesn’t face any inconvenience while having the required treatments under the scheme.

Nepal PM Oli recommends dissolution of Parliament amid political crisis

New Delhi (NVI) In a surprising move, Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today recommended the dissolution of Parliament at an emergency Cabinet meeting amid a power tussle within the country’s ruling party, local media reports said.

Oli has been under pressure from his detractors in the ruling Nepal Communist Party to withdraw a controversial ordinance.

The Nepal PM had summoned an out-of-schedule meeting of the Council of Ministers this morning after a series of meetings with party’s top leadership and ministers yesterday, reports The Himalayan Times.

“Today’s Cabinet meeting decided to recommend the President to dissolve the Parliament,” Barshaman Pun, Energy Minister in Oli’s cabinet was quoted as saying by the Kathmandu Post.

The recommendation will now be forwarded to President Bidya Devi Bhandari for approval, as per the Nepal news website.

The latest development in Nepal’s politics comes amid growing differences between Oli and former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

The Nepal PM will continue to head the interim government after the dissolution of the Parliament. However, the development can be seen as a precursor to the split in the party.

Oli’s party has been putting pressure on him to withdraw an ordinance that his government had issued on Tuesday to give himself the power to make crucial appointments.

40% of active corona cases in Kerala, Maharashtra

New Delhi (NVI): Kerala and Maharashtra have 40% of the active Covid-19 cases out of the total active cases in India, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) said today.

“33 States and UTs have less than 20,000 Active Cases. Kerala & Maharashtra together account for 40% of total #COVID19 active cases,” the Health Ministry said in a tweet.

India’s coronavirus tally crossed the 1-crore mark yesterday with 25,153 new cases.

Other states with a high number of active Covid-19 cases are — West Bengal (19,065), Uttar Pradesh (17,955), and Chhattisgarh (17,488).

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country stands at 3,08,751 while 95,50,712 have recovered from the infection so far. The first case of coronavirus was reported from Kerala on 30 January.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan yesterday said that India is at the cusp of authorising the first set of COVID-19 vaccines and the vaccination drive will cover the target populations estimated to be about 30 crores.

India, which is the second worst-hit nation by the pandemic after US, now has a recovery rate of 95.4 per cent.
