Peshawar: Chief of Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) Siraj-ul Haq today survived an assassination attempt in Balochistan, an incident for which Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) suggested the involvement of “Pakistan’s secret services and anti-Islamic elements in the country”.

Haq was moving in a convoy in Zhob district of Balochistan when a lone suicide bomber blew himself up but the religious leader escaped unhurt.

TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani, in a statement, strongly condemned the attack and slammed those Pakistani TV channels which were falsely holding his outfit responsible for the incident.

“According to the information received today, there are reports of an attack on Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Haq in Zhob district of Balochistan. We condemn it in the strongest terms and pray for speedy recovery of the injured and express condolences to the families of martyrs,” Khurasani said.

Emphasising that “political and religious parties are not among our targets”, he said “some channels are spreading fake stories to get cheap fame.”

He added, “Such activities are carried out by Pakistan’s secret services and anti-Islamic elements in the country to defame Jihad and Mujahideen.”
