Srinagar, Mar 28 (NVI): Leaders and workers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday staged a protest at Press Colony in Srinagar against the ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC), accusing the government of failing to address key public issues.
Led by PDP General Secretary Mohammad Khurshid Alam, around 40 to 50 party members gathered at the venue and raised slogans against the administration headed by Omar Abdullah.
The protesters alleged that the NC-led government is misleading the public and putting undue pressure on people to clear electricity and water bills without considering their financial constraints.
Chanting slogans such as “Omar, your government is a sham! It is a deception!”, the demonstrators demanded relief for the general public and greater sensitivity towards their economic conditions.
Speaking on the occasion, Alam said that people are not opposed to paying utility bills but should be given a reasonable grace period to clear them. He added that sudden enforcement without flexibility is creating hardships for many families.
PDP leaders also highlighted the issue of rising unemployment, urging the government to prioritise job creation for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest remained peaceful, and the participants later dispersed after voicing their demands. — (NVI)
