New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for wining the state assembly election and assured support from Centre to fight COVID-19.

“Congratulations to Mamata Didi for @AITCofficial’s win in West Bengal. The Centre will continue to extend all possible support to the West Bengal Government to fulfil people’s aspirations and also to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. @MamataOfficial,” Modi tweeted.

Banerjee is likely to return as the Chief Minister for the third consecutive term with the TMC leading in over 200 seats. Speaking to party workers from her Kalighat residence, Banerjee said “this is Bengal’s victory”.

Speaking to the press later, she said, “Covid is my first priority. We will work on this immediately. We will not do a big oath-taking ceremony. We will weather this storm. We will distribute free vaccines to everyone. Also request the Centre to distribute free vaccines to all. If this does not happen, I will sit on a dharna in front of the Gandhi Murti in Kolkata.”

The West Bengal Legislative Assembly, or the Vidhan Sabha, has a total of 294 seats.
