Srinagar, Sep 17 (NVI): The language used by Engineer Rashid during his public meetings and rallies says everything, senior National Conference (NC) leader Aga Syed Ruhullah said today, answering questions whether the former was BJP’s “proxy”.

Ruhullah, an NC MP from Srinagar, elaborated that Rashid, an Independent MP from Baramulla, uses the term “Modi Ji’ for the Prime Minister but calls former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir as “traitors”.

Speaking to reporters while campaigning for his party candidate from Lal Chowk Assembly constitutency Ehsan Pardeshi, Ruhullah questioned why Engineer Rashid had fielded candidates in the Kashmir Valley and not in Jammu Division, where the BJP is a dominant party.

“Why Kashmir? This is to divide votes and nothing else. Primary focus is to divide the votes of NC,” he added.

Engineer Rashid, elected as a Member of the Lok Sabha in the elections held in April-May this year while being lodged in Tihar Jail in a terror-funding case, was released on bail recently by a Delhi court to allow him to campaign for his party’s candidates in the ongoing Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Asked whether Engineer Rashid was the BJP’s proxy, Ruhullah said: “I won’t judge him. Let the people judge and take a call accordingly whether he is a proxy.”

However, he added, “For him, PM is ‘Modi ji’ and former J&K Chief Ministers are traitors. He even doesn’t hesitate to abuse the former J&K Chief Ministers,” the NC leader said.

Asked whether he has some expectations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is scheduled to address a rally in Srinagar on September 19, the NC MP responded: “We are fighting against Modi, what expectations should we have from him? We have expectations from people of India who should dethrone Modi as soon as possible.”

Speaking on the occasion, Ehsan Pardesi said he was confident about his victory, given the huge response from the people.

He, however, said that there are lot of “fake” candidates in the fray who are proxies of BJP and other parties. “Their sole aim is to divide the vote,” he said. (NVI )
