Srinagar, Jan 07 (NVI): In a decisive action against drug trafficking in Srinagar, the Police arrested several individuals involved in narcotic trade during two separate operations over the past week.

On January 7, a police team from Police Station M.R. Gunj, while conducting a routine naka checking at Syed Mansoor Zaldagar, intercepted an auto with registration number JK01H-9826. The two individuals on board, identified as Waseem Bashir Sheikh (driver) and his wife Uzma Wasim, both residents of Hamdania Colony Bemina, were found in possession of a substantial quantity of narcotics.

Following interrogation, it was revealed that the couple had been using their rickshaw and family cover to disguise their drug trafficking activities, targeting the youth of the region. Both were arrested, and a case under the NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station M.R. Ganj. Further investigation is underway.

In another operation on January 3, a police team from Police Station Zadibal apprehended Waseem Ahmad Bafanda, a drug peddler from Dangerpora Mallabagh Hazratbal, at a checkpoint in Sazgaripora. Upon searching, officers recovered a significant amount of contraband and ₹3,020 from his possession. A case under the NDPS Act was also filed at Police Station Zadibal.

Further investigation into the case led to the arrest of two more individuals—Waqar Ahmad Duloo, also known as Koter, from Ellahi Bagh, and Mohammad Rafiq Pattoo from Shah Mohalla Ahmad Nagar—both of whom were found with a large quantity of drugs.

The police are continuing their investigation into these cases as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety.(News Vibes of India)
