New Delhi (NVI): India today said political spectrum across the US understands that the decision to scrap of special status of Jammu and Kashmir state granted under Article 370 is purely India’s sovereign and internal decision.
“We have received full understanding from across the political spectrum in the US that the decision related to Article 370 is purely India’s sovereign and internal decision,” spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs Raveesh Kumar said at a weekly briefing here.
“We have seen the Statement made by Congressman Olson recognising the rationale behind the decision of the Government of India w.r.t. Jammu and Kashmir, carried out as per India’s Constitution,” he said.
“As we have said in the past, we remain engaged with various stakeholders in the US, including the Administration, Congress, civil society and others, to address their questions,” he added.
While speaking in the US Congress recently, Pete Olson had recently praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that he is working to bring peace in the region and unite the people of ‘Jammu and Kashmir with the greater Indian community.’
‘Today I spoke on the House floor to stand with India and Prime Minister @narendramodi as he works to bring peace to the region, expand democracy and unite the people of #JammuAndKashmir with the greater Indian community,” Olson had said tweeting a 90-second video of his speech.
