Sushil Chandra appointed new CEC

    New Delhi (NVI): President Ram Nath Kovind today appointed Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra as Chief Election Commissioner.

    Chandra will take over from Sunil Arora, whose tenure ended on April 12.

    “The President appointed Sushil Chandra the senior-most Election Commissioner, as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India,” the Law Ministry said in a statement.

    The Ministry said that Chandra will assume the charge of office of the Chief Election Commissioner with effect from the 13th ApriI, 2021.

    “A notification in this regard has been issued by Legislative Department, Ministry of Law & Justice today,” it added.
