New Delhi: Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over parts of East India and thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty winds exceeding up to 40 kmph expected in North India today, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya and Heavy Rainfall at isolated places over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh,” it said in its daily weather bulletin.
“Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe will also witness heavy rains today,” the IMD said.
According to IMD, “Thunderstorm with lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad.”
“With lightning at isolated places over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal,” the IMD said.
It has also predicted heatwave conditions in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan.
Strong Winds (speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over Southwest & Westcentral Arabian Sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, the IMD said.
