Rajkot fire: PM pays condolences

New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the death of five patients who died in the fire that broke out at a COVID-19 hospital in Rajkot, Gujarat in the wee hours today.

PM Modi also said that the administration is ensuring all possible assistance to those affected due to the fire.

“Extremely pained by the loss of lives due to a hospital fire in Rajkot. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones in this unfortunate tragedy. Praying for a quick recovery of the injured. The administration is ensuring all possible assistance to those affected,” the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted.

Reportedly, fire broke out at around 1 am today at Uday Shivanand COVID hospital’s incentive care unit (ICU) in Rajkot.

There were total 33 people admitted in this COVID hospital, out of which 30 people were rescued by the fire department.

At least 11 patients were inside the ICU at the time of the incident. While six out of 11 patients were saved, the other five lost their lives, as per the reports.

However, the fire is under control and the cause of the fire has not been ascertained yet. The rescued patients have been shifted to other COVID-19 hospitals.
