Rajnath Singh to represent India at upcoming SCO in Uzbekistan

New Delhi (NVI): In a bid to enhance bilateral cooperation on security and economic issues between India and SCO countries, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as the representative of India proceeded for a two-day meeting of council of heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Taskent, Uzbekistan, starting from November 2.

“I look forward to further India’s association with the SCO members which will help us in greater economic cooperation and also counter-terrorism cooperation, among several other things,” Rajnath took to twitter. 

“SCO represents over 40 per cent of humanity and nearly 20 per cent of the global GDP. The successful cooperation within the framework of SCO, therefore, is of great significance to the region and the world,” he further tweeted.

The leaders participating in the meeting are expected to focus their discussions on the multilateral economic cooperation in the SCO region.

India is actively engaged in various SCO cooperation dialogue mechanisms and further developing multilateral cooperation within the SCO framework.

This will be the third CHG meeting after India became a member of SCO. The last two CHG meetings were held between November 30- December 1, 2017 at Sochi in Russia and October 11-12, 2018 at Dushanbe in Tajikistan.

In the two-day meeting, the Minister will be holding bilateral discussions. Also, he is scheduled to hold a meeting with Maj Gen Kurbanov Bakhodir Nizamovich, Minister of Defence of Uzbekistan to discuss issues of bilateral defence cooperation.

It has been noted that Armies of the two countries would be participating in the first-ever India-Uzbekistan joint exercise ‘Dostlik 2019’. The exercise will be conducted from November 4-13.

Meanwhile, he will also participate in bilateral engagements with the Uzbekistan government.
