Rights activist, Ex PDP MLA join Congress in Sgr, Party emerging as ‘strong force’ : Karra

Srinagar, Aug 31(NVI): A prominent rights activist and the former legislator today joined Congress party in Srinagar with party chief Tariq Hameed Karra stating that the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) was emerging as a strong and vibrant force in J&K.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Karra welcomed the new entrants—rights activist Irfan Hafiz Lone and former PDP MLA Abdul Rahim Rather asserting that the entry of new faces will help Congress party grow stronger in rural areas.

Irfan’s father Hafizullan Lone, who was a renowned businessman and social activist was killed by terrorists in 1991. In 2020, District Development Council (DDC) polls Irfan defeated his opponent Shoaib Nabi Lone, who at present with Awami Itehad Party (AIP) led by jailed Member Parliament Er Rashid.

Karra said only Congress can pull out the J&K from the “oppression unleashed by the BJP.” “Doors of Congress are open for the youth and those who believe in secularism. We will welcome those believing in the Congress ideology with open arms,” he said.

He said Congress party is turning out to be best alternative to BJP under the leadership of young and dynamic leader Rahul Gandhi. “The support Rahul received in J&K when Bharat Jodo Yatra was launched is evident that people love this leader and his ideology,” Karra said.

On the reports of Rahul’s rallies in Dooru, Anantnag on September 4, the PCC chief said that the party has requested Rahul to address rallies in Anantnag and Banihal.            (News Vibes of India
