New Delhi (NVI): The Supreme Court today issued notice to former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar on a plea filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), challenging the anticipatory bail granted to him in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam case.

While issuing notice to Kumar, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde said the apex court was issuing the notice as it feels there has to be “something about this person absconding for a long time”, though it is still necessary for the CBI to convince the court as to why it is necessary to arrest a high-ranking officer.

On October 1, the Calcutta High Court had granted bail to Kumar on condition that he would cooperate in the inquiry. Solicitor General c, appearing for the CBI, challenged the high court order in the Apex Court here.
