Snowfall batters Kashmir again

Srinagar (NVI): Kashmir received a fresh snowfall at the higher reaches even as rains lashed plains of the Valley today, weather officials said.

According to the weather department, the snowfall in the region started in the high altitude areas of the valley and parts of Jammu region on November 21.

Moderate snowfall and light rain was reported at Gulmarg and other places, weather department said in a statement.

The Gulmarg resort, the attraction for tourists visiting the Valley during winter, recorded four inches of snowfall.

Light to moderate snowfall at Zojila, Drass, Zanskar area of Ladakh and at isolated places of Jammu region has also been reported.

With the -3.1 degree Celsius, Kargil remained the coldest place.

The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain or snow in Kashmir and light rain or snow in Jammu and Ladakh regions over the next 24 hours.

It said there was possibility of isolated light rain on Saturday, but the weather was most likely to remain dry till Tuesday.
