Srinagar, Oct 01 (NVI) Srinagar Police have busted an alleged organised narcotics network operating in the downtown area and arrested eight people, recovering banned drugs, a pistol, Rs 85.76 lakh in cash and gold worth over Rs 1.05 crore, officials said.
The police have also frozen around Rs 1.07 crore held in multiple bank accounts and attached a residential house and two vehicles allegedly linked to the network, they said.
SSP Srinagar Dr G V Sundeep Chakravarthy said the arrests were made during an investigation into an organised drug-supply network in which the accused allegedly performed different roles.
The case pertains to FIR No. 135/2026 registered at Safakadal police station under various sections of the NDPS Act, Arms Act and Section 111 of the BNS.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Waseem Zargar, Haris Hameed Malla, Aqib Saleem Dar, Inam Ahmad Zargar, Sahib Ahmad Ganaie, Ansar Hussain Bhat, Peer Shakoor and Haroon Pandit, police said.
During the investigation, police recovered 3.830 kg of codeine, around 40 grams of heroin, 414 tramadol tablets/capsules, around 2,18,500 tapentadol tablets and 1,200 pregabalin capsules, the SSP said.
A pistol and around Rs 85.76 lakh in cash were also recovered, he said.
Police also seized 108 gold coins and around 17 grams of MMTC-PAMP gold/jewellery, with their combined value estimated at Rs 1,05,29,400.
The police have frozen around Rs 1.07 crore in multiple bank accounts and attached a residential house belonging to Zargar and two vehicles allegedly linked to the network, officials said.
The investigation has also been extended outside Jammu and Kashmir, with police teams reaching Chandigarh and Punjab. The Punjab Police and Narcotics Control Bureau supported the probe, the SSP said.
Police are investigating the transport agencies allegedly used by the network and working to identify its forward links, distributors and beneficiaries, he said.
The SSP said the objective was to dismantle the entire narcotics supply chain rather than limit the action to arrests and recoveries.
Three alleged associates — Mazam Firdous Khanday, Farzan Pallwala and Mohammad Sharvar, all from Muzaffar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh — are absconding, police said.
Further arrests and recoveries are likely as the investigation progresses, officials said.—(NVI)
