Srinagar, Jun 28 (NVI): Srinagar recorded the highest temperature of the season on Sunday as the mercury settled at 33.8 degrees Celsius amid an intense heatwave sweeping Kashmir, officials said.

According to the Meteorological Department, dry weather is expected to persist across Jammu and Kashmir till June 30.

Officials said weather conditions are likely to change from July 1, with a fresh western disturbance interacting with advancing monsoon winds expected to bring widespread rainfall across the Union Territory.

The forecast indicates rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds, lightning and isolated hailstorms at several places between July 1 and July 4, they said.

The expected wet spell is likely to provide relief from the prevailing heat, although heavy showers and strong winds could trigger localised disruptions in vulnerable areas, officials said.

The Meteorological Department has advised people, particularly those living in flood-prone and hilly areas, to remain alert and follow official weather advisories.

The rainfall is also expected to bring down temperatures after several days of unusually hot weather, officials added.(NVI)
