Suspected coronavirus death in Ladakh

Srinagar (NVI): An Iran-returned Leh resident has died in Ladakh Union Territory, suspectedly due to coronavirus.

73-year-old Ali Mohammad was admitted to Sonam Norbu Hospital in Ladakh on March 6 with complaints of urinary incontinence and respiratory issues.

“His sample was collected and sent to Delhi but the he passed away today morning,” Medical Superintendent of SN Hospital, Dr Tsering Samphel said.

When asked whether he died of coronavirus or not, Samphel said, “it will take nearly six days to confirm whether the patient was affected or not.”

But according to reports, Ali Mohammed was also in contact with corona positive patients – Mohammad Hussain and Mohammad Hadi, on February 26. He was found to be negative in the virus check at Havi Check on Leh Airport and went home!

Dr Samphel said the patient did not have any contact with the two who have been tested positive and are kept in isolation in the same hospital.

Two persons from Ladakh with recent travel history to Iran were tested positive for novel coronavirus on March 7.

They were admitted to Sonam Norboo Memorial Hospital (SNM) hospital Leh.
