Srinagar: A terrorist affiliated with the so-called ‘The Resistance Front’, a proxy organisation for Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was killed today in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The encounter took place after a team of security forces, comprising the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, laid a cordon around Kathohalan village following a specific information about terrorist presence, the police said.

The joint team launched a search operation and when it approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist open indiscriminate fire.

The security personnel retaliated effectively, resulting in the killing of one local terrorist, identified as Maiser Ahmad Dar alias Adil.

He was associated with the proscribed terror outfit TRF, the police said.

“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” it said.
