Quetta: Coinciding with the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, the Baloch National Movement (BNM) is planning to organise a series of events to highlight the “alarming” situation prevailing in Pakistan-occupied Balochistan.

The BNM events will be held from September 16 and will focus on the human rights situation in Balochistan besides addressing the Baloch national question, according to its spokesman Qazi Dad Mohammad Rehan.

On September 16, a press conference will be organised giving out details of the programme.

A demonstration will be held on September 17, followed by a photo exhibition from September 17 to 18, aimed at raising awareness about the Baloch nation and Balochistan, Rehan said.

BNM members and leadership from various countries around the world will participate in these programs, he said.

The spokesperson stated that the BNM intends to engage international organizations regarding the human rights situation in Balochistan and the Baloch national independence movement.

“Balochistan, an occupied country seized by Pakistan through military force, continues to resist this occupation. In response to this multifaceted resistance, the Pakistani army has committed serious crimes, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings,” Rehan said.

He said frustration of the Pakistani military over its failure to suppress attacks by the Baloch freedom fighters is taken out on the unarmed population.

Balochistan was occupied by Pakistan in March 1948, and since then, the Baloch nation has endured repeated military massacres.

“Currently, top military and political authorities are signalling an escalation in the ongoing genocide in Balochistan, which could lead to even more bloodshed in the coming days,” the BNM spokesman said, adding this situation demands urgent global action to prevent further atrocities.

To hide its defeat and military failures against the Baloch freedom fighters, the Pakistan army has increasingly resorted to custodial killings, disposing of the bodies of forcibly disappeared persons, Rehan said.

“This alarming situation will be a key focus of discussion at the Geneva events,” he said.
