Visit Balochistan, see Pakistani atrocities: BNM to UN Secy Gen

at 8:18 pm

Quetta: With UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Pakistan, Baloch National Movement (BNM) today urged him to visit flood-hit Balochistan and check how Pakistani forces have continued their aggression against the Baloch people even during this devastation.

BNM Chairman Dr Naseem Baluch also cautioned the world that Pakistan is in the habit of using international aid, received during natural disasters, for strengthening its military for use against the Baloch people.

“We appeal @antonioguterres to visit Balochistan too which is badly affected after the devastating floods. (At the) Same time Pakistani forces have continued their aggression there (in Balochistan),” Baluch tweeted as the UN chief held meetings with top Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in Islamabad.

Guterres, after meeting Sharif, tweeted: “Discussed with PM @CMShehbaz Pakistan’s response to devastating floods. Pakistan suffers – yet has done almost nothing to contribute to climate change. I urge countries to generously support the humanitarian response, recovery & reconstruction as a matter of solidarity & justice.”

Naseem Baluch, while flagging caution, said, “After any disaster, Pakistan uses the granted aid against the Baloch nation.”

The BNM chief said that during the floods of 2007 and the earthquake of 2013, the aid which Pakistan received was spent on constructing military camps and checkpoints in Balochistan which resulted in acceleration of Enforced Disappearances.

The Baloch people have been regretting that the UN and international Human Rights bodies have failed them as the populace of the occupied region continue to be subjected to extreme torture and persecution at the hands of Pakistani security forces.

Baloch people have been victims of the worst kind of atrocities, including Enforced Disappearances wherein Pakistani security agencies illegally pick up innocent men and women and they are never seen again while their loved ones keep waiting.

Every year, tens of thousands of youth are subjected to Enforced Disappearances in Balochistan but the UN and UN Human Rights Commission have remained mute spectators.
