Western Disturbance to Lash J&K with Rain, Snow Till April 9

Srinagar, Apr 7 (NVI): A strong Western Disturbance is set to impact Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday afternoon, bringing widespread rain and snowfall across the Union Territory till April 9, officials said.

The weather observers, the system is expected to first affect the Jammu division, with moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms likely during the afternoon hours.

The weather activity will gradually extend to south Kashmir by late afternoon and spread to other parts of the Kashmir Valley by evening, they said.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely over Jammu division and south Kashmir, while central and north Kashmir may receive light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells.

Higher reaches are expected to witness moderate to heavy snowfall, with chances of accumulation in elevated areas.

Gusty winds, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorm activity may also occur at several places across Jammu division and the Kashmir Valley, officials said.

They warned that intense rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, while a noticeable drop in temperatures is also expected.

The weather system is likely to remain active till the afternoon of April 9, after which conditions are expected to gradually improve, with more stable weather likely from April 10 onwards, they added.(NVI)
