Wildlife Dept. issues stern warning against illegal hunting of Migratory birds in Kashmir wetlands

Srinagar, Jan 02 (NVI): The Wildlife Warden, Wetlands, Department of Wildlife Protection, has issued a stern warning to the public about the illegal hunting of migratory birds, emphasizing the serious legal consequences of such offenses.

According to the notice, illegal hunting in and around wetlands is a violation of Section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act, and offenders will face strict action under Sections 50 and 51 of the Act. The notice also highlighted the requirement for individuals carrying firearms within a 10-kilometer radius of a Wildlife Sanctuary or National Park to register their weapons with the Department as per Section 34 of the Act.

The Wildlife Protection Department reminded the public that illegal hunting can lead to imprisonment for up to three years, a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh, or both penalties, depending on the offense’s severity.

The department urged citizens to respect these regulations, stressing the importance of protecting migratory birds and maintaining the sanctity of the region’s wetlands.(News Vibes of India)
