Srinagar, Dec 08(NVI): The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gulmarg has issued a winter travel advisory to ensure smooth and safe movement on the Gulmarg-Tangmarg road during the upcoming snowy months.
The advisory highlights that slippery conditions and heavy snowfall often lead to traffic issues and accidents. To address these concerns, specific measures will be enforced:
-Restricted Vehicle Movement: Only 4×4 vehicles and those fitted with anti-skid chains will be allowed to travel between Tangmarg and Gulmarg until the ice clears.
Limit on Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs): Only light motor vehicles with a maximum seating capacity of 10 are allowed to ensure fewer breakdowns and traffic snarls.
Anti-skid Chain Policy: Vendors authorized by the authorities are allowed to install anti-skid chains on vehicles, with the cost fixed at Rs 600 per pair. These vendors must operate in designated parking zones to minimize congestion.
Furthermore, tour operators and private car owners must park only in specified areas in Tangmarg to prevent roadside traffic issues. Similarly, coat and boot sellers have been directed not to obstruct roads with their activities to ease movement.
