New Delhi (NVI): Possibly setting a world record, a woman of Mali, an African country, has given birth to nine children – five girls and four boys.
The 25-year-old woman Halima Cisse gave birth through a caesarean process in Morocco, where she was shifted on March 30 for specialised medical treatment after 25 weeks of pregnancy, local media reports said, citing the Mali government officials.
The babies were born on May 4, five weeks after her admission in a Moroccan hospital, in a case described by doctors as “rare”.
The woman and the babies are said to be doing fine.
Prior to this, two women were recorded to have given birth to 9 babies in one delivery – one in Australia in 1971 and another in Malaysia in 1999. However, the babies in both the cases did not reportedly survive beyond a few days.
In 2009, a woman in the US gave birth to 8 children, all of whom survived and are growing well. She holds the Guinness World Record for it.
