India’s COVID tally nears 43 lakh, death toll tops 72,000

New Delhi (NVI): India witnessed a single-day jump of 75,809 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, rising the overall tally to 42,80,423, Union Health Ministry said.

The country’s death toll has reached 72,775 with 1,133 fatalities reported during this period.

So far, 33,23,950 patients have been cured and recovered all over the country while active cases stands at 8,83,697.

In worst-hit Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases climbed to 9,23,641, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 5,06,4931 cases, and Tamil Nadu with 4,69,256 cases.

The other worst affected states are Karnataka (4,04,324), Uttar Pradesh (2,71,851) and Delhi (1,93,526).

Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of death toll at 27,027 followed by 7,925 fatalities in Tamil Nadu.

The death toll in the national capital surpassed to 4,599, while 1,68,384 patients have recovered so far, the healthy ministry data shows.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 5,06,50,128 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to September 7 with 10,98,621 samples being tested on yesterday.

Meanwhile, as India witnesses daily huge surge in COVID-19 cases, doctors at one of the largest private coronavirus facilities in Delhi said that they are exhausted and facing staff shortages after nearly six months of relentless work, as per the reports.
