New Delhi (NVI): The air quality in Delhi-NCR remained in the ‘very poor’ category this morning, which is expected to deteriorate over the next two days.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 375 in Anand Vihar, 358 in Bawana, 320 in Mathura Road, 340 in Dwarka, 365 in Jahangirpuri, and 312 in RK Puram, all falling under the ‘very poor’ category.
The city’s overall air quality index stood at 331 at around 10 am, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category.
Although, the concentration of major air pollutants PM 2.5 and PM 10 remained high in the five immediate neighbours of Delhi.
Meanwhile, the visibility in the national capital this morning reduced considerably due to the smog and haziness.
Over the past two days, the air quality in the capital region improved as the contribution of stubble burning from neighbouring states has become negligible and winds are driving the toxic fumes away from the capital, as per the forecast.
In addition to this, the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ air monitoring agency, SAFAR said that stubble burning-induced impact on AQI is expected to increase from negligible to moderate in the next two days.
“Air quality is predicted to remain at the higher end of ‘very poor’ levels if there are no additional emissions due to fireworks during Diwal festival on weekend,” SAFAR added.
