Bengaluru (NVI): Karnataka government is considering a proposal to remove the 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan’s name from school textbooks, state chief minister BS Yediyurappa said.

“About Tipu Jayanti, we are going to drop everything. We are also thinking about dropping everything in the textbooks about him. I do not agree with people who say that Tipu Sultan was a freedom fighter,”Yediyurappa told reporters here on October 30.

Tipu (1750-1799) was the king of then Mysore state in southern India and died in the fourth Anglo-Mysore war in 1799 at Srirangapatna near Mysore after a series of victories in battles against the British rulers.
