Pb extends night curfew hrs in 9 districts

New Delhi (NVI): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today extended the night curfew by two hours daily in nine worst hit districts, amid rising COVID-19 cases across the state.

The curfew is imposed from 9 pm to 5 am from March 18 in the districts of Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Mohali, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Ropar.

All these districts have been reporting over 100 new cases every day.

Taking to Twitter, Amarinder Singh wrote, “We have decided to extend night curfew by 2 hours in 9 worst impacted districts by COVID-19 i.e. Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Mohali, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala & Ropar. Curfew will be in force from 9 pm to 5 am. Urge all to wear masks and observe precautions.”

This announcement came as Punjab’s daily COVID-19 cases rise up to 2,039 with 35 deaths on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister also stated that stricter curbs and more tough measures over the next couple of days to limit the COVID-19 spread.

Singh informed this while addressing the media at a function to mark four years of the Congress government in office.

Meanwhile, Punjab has registered 2,03,049 coronavirus cases with 6,172 fatalities, the Health Ministry data shows.
