Heavy rains likely over North, NE and peninsular India

New Delhi: Parts of North, East, Northeast and peninsular India are expected to receive  heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds exceeding up to 40 Kmph, the IMD said today.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places very likely over Konkan & Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Maharashtra.”

“Heavy rainfall at isolated places expected over Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Gujarat region, Coastal Karnataka Kerala & Mahe and ghat area of Tamil Nadu,” the IMD said.

Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is very likely at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Telangana, it said.

“With lightning at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Rayalaseema, Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal,” it added.

Strong winds (speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over North Arabian Sea & along & off Gujarat, Maharashtra-Goa coasts; Southeast Arabian Sea & along & off Karnataka-Kerala coasts & Lakshadweep area, South & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal & south Andaman Sea and along & off south Tamil Nadu coast.

The IMD further advised fishermen not to venture into these areas.
