Srinagar, Nov 22 (NVI): Senior Congress leader and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Karra, has called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the allegations of bribery involving the Adani Group.

Addressing the media during a press briefing here, Karra emphasized the need for a thorough inquiry into the matter, which has already garnered significant public attention due to its serious implications.

Karra’s remarks come in response to the BJP-led government’s acknowledgment that officials in opposition-ruled states and Jammu and Kashmir, which is under President’s Rule, might be involved in the alleged bribery scandal.

The Congress leader questioned why the ruling party was not taking immediate steps to investigate these claims more transparently.

“If the BJP admits that these incidents occurred in opposition-ruled states or Jammu and Kashmir, it would amount to an indirect admission of guilt,” Karra said.

“We demand a full investigation by a Joint Parliamentary Committee to uncover the truth behind these grave allegations, especially since credible evidence has reportedly surfaced.”

Karra also took aim at what he described as the government’s selective application of the law, citing recent instances of opposition leaders being arrested over corruption cases involving smaller sums of money. He raised concerns over the legal immunity afforded to those linked to the ruling party despite facing allegations of bribing officials in deals amounting to Rs. 2,000 crore.

“Why is it that opposition chief ministers are arrested for alleged irregularities of Rs. 31 crore or Rs. 100 crore, but those accused of much larger sums, like the alleged Rs. 2,000 crore bribery scandal involving Adani, seem to escape scrutiny? This selective enforcement of laws only harms the faith of the common people in our system,” Karra remarked.

Karra’s call for a JPC probe reflects growing concerns within the opposition about the alleged influence of corporate power on political processes, particularly in light of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Adani Group. The Congress party has vowed to continue pressuring the government for an impartial investigation into the matter.        (News Vibes of India)
