Srinagar, Dec 19 (NVI): In a decisive move against the growing drug trade, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully apprehended four drug peddlers in Srinagar, recovering significant quantities of illegal substances including Heroin.

This operation, part of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the drug menace, saw the police intercepting a vehicle at Kralkhud Chowk. The two men inside the vehicle—identified as Nadeem Shafi Kashani, a resident of Sathoo Payeen Barbarshah, Srinagar and Ashiq Ahmed Hundoo from Abi-Karpora Dalgate, Srinagar—were found with 4 grams of Heroin. The vehicle, a white Etios, was also seized by the police as part of the investigation.

In a separate operation within the jurisdiction of Police Station Safakadal, two more individuals, Nabeel Showkat Zargar of Safakadal Haftayarbal and Shahriyar Ahmad Mir from Rathpora Eidgah, were arrested. The police recovered 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, a controlled substance and 30 strips of Tapentidol, a banned painkiller often abused for its psychoactive properties. These substances, both illicit and potentially harmful, were seized during a routine checkpoint operation aimed at preventing the circulation of illegal drugs.

Following the arrests, cases under relevant sections of the law have been filed at the respective police stations, and investigations have been initiated to trace the origins and distribution networks of the seized contraband. The authorities are hopeful that these actions will disrupt the local drug supply chains and bring those involved in the trafficking network to justice.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have reiterated their commitment to fighting the drug epidemic, stating that these arrests demonstrate their ongoing resolve to protect the community from the scourge of substance abuse. The authorities have called on local residents to continue supporting these efforts and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking in their neighborhoods. Through these continuous actions, the police aim to create a safer environment for the people of Srinagar and surrounding areas.(News Vibes of India)
