Two Pilots Killed as IAF Su-30MKI Crashes in Assam During Training Mission

Srinagar, Mar 6 (NVI): Two pilots of the Indian Air Force (IAF) lost their lives after their SU-30 MKI fighter aircraft crashed in Karbi Anglong district of Assam during a training mission.

The aircraft went off the radar soon after take off from Jorhat airbase last evening and the casualties were confirmed this morning.

The last contact with the aircraft was established at around 7:42 pm (yesterday), following which search and rescue operations were immediately launched, the IAF said.

The fighter jet crashed in the Karbi Anglong area of Assam, nearly 60 kilometres from Jorhat, during a routine training sortie.

Rescue teams were rushed to the crash site soon after the incident.

In an update issued on Friday morning, the force confirmed the fatal casualty of the two pilots—Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar.

The Indian Air Force expressed deep condolences over the loss and said that all personnel of the force stand firmly with the bereaved families in this difficult time. (NVI)
