Srinagar, Mar 7 (NVI): Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said India should make its decisions independently and not allow any external power to influence its policies, while reacting to the US waiver permitting Indian refiners to buy Russian oil.

Talking to reporters in Srinagar, the president of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference said the country must determine its policies based on its own national interests.

“We are not dependent. The tragedy is I do not know why they are trying to make us dependent. It is a matter related to the independence of the country,” Abdullah said.

He further said that India should decide its own future and must not allow others to dictate its choices. Referring to the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Abdullah recalled that during discussions on the civil nuclear deal, Singh had maintained that India would take decisions keeping its national interest in mind.

Meanwhile, India has confirmed that it will continue importing Russian oil after a temporary waiver was granted by the United States amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, officials said. (NVI)
