Srinagar, Jun 26 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday joined mourners during the Youm-e-Ashura procession in Srinagar’s Zadibal area and distributed water and milk among participants.
Abdullah was accompanied by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq.
The chief minister interacted with mourners and volunteers and participated in the distribution of refreshments at a stall set up by the National Conference during the procession.
Thousands of Shia mourners participated in the Youm-e-Ashura procession in Zadibal to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
Youm-e-Ashura, observed on the 10th day of Muharram, marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, in the Battle of Karbala and is commemorated with religious processions and mourning across Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country.(NVI)
