New Delhi, Sep 13 (NVI): India and Vietnam on Sunday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening maritime and defence cooperation for regional security as Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh held talks with Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang here.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, focused on strengthening bilateral defence ties, advancing regional security and deepening the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
The discussions covered expediting joint initiatives, technology sharing and defence industrial cooperation, according to an official statement.
The two sides underlined the importance of expanding maritime and defence ties to promote a peaceful, stable and rules-based regional security architecture.
India and Vietnam also stressed the need for close coordination at multilateral forums to address emerging and complex security challenges, with particular emphasis on engagement under the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus) framework.
The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing practical defence cooperation through ASEAN-led mechanisms, noting the role of ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Groups in promoting regional stability and strengthening collective security in the Indo-Pacific.
They also agreed to hold the next Defence Policy Dialogue in India on the sidelines of Aero India 2027.
The meeting comes after the recent high-level bilateral interaction between the Prime Ministers of India and Vietnam on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit and reflects the growing momentum in defence ties between the two countries.—(NVI)
