Srinagar, Sep 28 (NVI): Five people, including a nine-month-old infant, were killed and eight others injured when a passenger vehicle met with an accident in the Semari area of Karnah in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, officials said.
The accident took place at Semari in the Teetwal area when a Scorpio vehicle was involved in the mishap, they said.
The injured were shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Tangdhar, for treatment. Six of them were referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment, while two others are undergoing treatment at the hospital, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Mohd Idrees (32), his nine-month-old daughter Hamza, his wife Sayeed Begum (30), Shabir Ahmad (70) and Raja Irshad (27), they said.
The injured have been identified as Sajid Ahmad, Naveed Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad, Farhan Khursheed, Javid Ahmad, Ashia Begum, Ajaz Manzoor and Shariq.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and said he had directed the District Administration to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured. “Deeply pained by the loss of lives in an unfortunate road accident in Kupwara. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the early recovery of the injured,” the LG wrote on X.—(NVI)
