Man chargesheeted in two fraud, forgery cases in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 4 (NVI) : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K has filed two chargesheets against a man in separate cases of alleged cheating, impersonation and forgery involving job aspirants and fraudulent land-allotment promises, officials said on Sunday.

The chargesheets against Abdul Majeed Mir, a resident of Kalaroos Lishtiyal in Kupwara district, were filed before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, they said.

In one case, registered as FIR No. 13/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the investigation found that Mir allegedly cheated a person of Rs 2.10 lakh on the pretext of providing employment and furnished a fake appointment order purportedly issued by the Airports Authority of India, the officials said.

In another case, FIR No. 10/2025, registered under various sections of the IPC, Mir allegedly impersonated himself as a duty officer attached to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and promised government jobs and land at SDA Colony in Bemina, they said.

The accused allegedly collected around Rs 60 lakh and provided fake appointment and land-allotment letters, the officials said.

The chargesheets have been filed for judicial determination, they added.

According to the Crime Branch, Mir is also involved in 15 other criminal cases registered across the Kashmir Valley.

The EOW has urged people to remain vigilant against economic fraud and report such cases to the Crime Branch.—(NVI)
