Defence Forces Must Remain Alert Against Cyber Attacks, Drone Threats: Rajnath Singh

West Bengal,  Nov 7 (NVI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday called upon the armed forces to maintain the highest level of operational readiness, with a particular focus on domain awareness, cyber resilience and information integrity to effectively counter emerging security threats.

Interacting with Indian Air Force personnel at Air Force Station Bagdogra on the eve of Diwali, Singh said the security environment had become increasingly complex, with threats extending beyond conventional warfare to include asymmetric warfare, proxy wars, cyber-attacks, drone swarms and information operations.

He cautioned that adversaries were increasingly avoiding direct confrontation and attempting to exploit vulnerabilities through misinformation and social media campaigns aimed at creating distrust among local populations and security personnel.

“In such a scenario, your role extends beyond that of an ordinary soldier,” Singh said, emphasising the importance of remaining alert against attempts to influence public opinion and undermine national security.

He appreciated the armed forces for adopting indigenous technologies and acquiring new skills in areas such as drone operations and cyber security, stressing that the military needed to become increasingly technology-driven to meet future challenges.

Referring to the Cabinet’s approval of the ‘Second Tour of Duty’ for Agniveers, Singh termed the decision a significant Diwali gift for them, saying it would provide an additional opportunity to serve the nation.

He said that after completion of the two-year engagement period, Agniveers would have an opportunity to be enrolled as regular soldiers, subject to their willingness and fulfilment of the prescribed selection criteria.

The Defence Minister reiterated that the government remained committed to the welfare of armed forces personnel and their families.

Extending Diwali greetings to the Air Warriors and their families, Singh acknowledged the sacrifices made by personnel who remain away from their homes during festivals to safeguard the country.

He expressed gratitude to their families for their support and sacrifices, saying the nation would always stand firmly with them and ensure their well-being.
