Army foils Pak bid to push terrorists; 1 soldier martyred

Jammu (NVI): Indian Army foiled an attempt by Pakistan to push terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir last night under the cover of firing and shelling but lost one soldier in the exchange of fire, officials said here today.

According to officials, on the intervening night of November 7 and 8, Pakistan Army violated ceasefire accompanied by suspicious movement of Pakistani Army abetted terrorists in the Krishna Ghati Sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Observing suspicious movement, effective engagement of terrorists and Pak posts was carried out by own alert troops,” officials said.

During the exchange of fire, Sepoy Rahul Bhairu Sulagekar was injured and was evacuated to the nearest medical aid centre and provided medical aid and resuscitation. However, the soldier succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

The 21-year-old soldier was a native of Karnataka and is survived by his mother.

“He was a brave, highly motivated and sincere soldier. The Nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty,” the Army said in a statement.

Notably, last month, six to 10 Pakistani soldiers and equal number of terrorists were killed by the Indian Army when the Pakistan army initiated unprovoked firing to push terrorists into the Indian side in Tangdhar sector.
