New Delhi (NVI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today assured that his government is four steps ahead of the coronavirus and is more than prepared to tackle the pandemic.
While addressing a virtual media briefing, the Delhi Chief Minister said, “The national capital cannot have a permanent lockdown, even as the city has been witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases.”
“We agree that the city has seen a huge spike in the number of coronavirus cases. But we should not panic. The situation in Delhi would be worrying for me in two scenarios – if the number of deaths increases and if there’s a shortage of hospital beds,” Kejriwal said.
So far, the Delhi government has arranged 2,100 additional beds for COVID-19 patients in a week’s time, the Chief Minister said. “We had 4,500 beds. Today, the city has 6,600 beds for the patients. By next week, we are planning to take this figure to 9,500,” he added.
Arvind Kejriwal also stated that an app with information on beds and ventilator vacancies in hospitals will be launched by Monday to help people avail the hospital facilities without hindrances.
He further urged the people to not trust fake news and be misled by fake videos.
So far, the total number of coronavirus cases has risen to 17,386 in Delhi with a total of 398 fatalities reported.
