Srinagar, May 25 (NVI): Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Inspector General of Police Kashmir V K Birdi and other senior officials on Monday reached Gulmarg to oversee rescue operations after hundreds of tourists were stranded following a technical snag in the Gulmarg Gondola service, officials said.
Officials said more than 300 tourists were left stranded mid-air after the cable car service developed a technical fault at the famous ski resort in north Kashmir.
Rescue teams comprising police, Army and civil administration officials launched an operation to safely evacuate the stranded tourists, they said.
Senior Army officers, including Maj Gen Punit Doval, GoC 19 Division Maj Gen Manoj Dattatrey Joshi, Brigadier M B Singh and Commanding Officer of 09 Raj Rifles Col S K Yadav, also rushed to Gulmarg to assist and monitor the rescue efforts, officials added.
The Gulmarg Gondola is among the highest cable car services in the world and remains a major tourist attraction in Jammu and Kashmir.(NVI)
