New Delhi (NVI): Taking forward their strong 70-year diplomatic and economic relationship, India and Finland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of tourism that will give further fillip to already large influx of India-bound Finnish tourists.
The MoU was signed by Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel and Finland’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Employment Timo Harakka here yesterday.
Finland is one of the important inbound source markets for India. In 2018, around 21,239 Finnish tourists have visited India. The signing of Memorandum of Understanding with Finland will be instrumental in increasing tourist arrivals from this source market, said an official statement.
The signing of MoU is expected to establish the basis for a cooperative relationship to encourage and promote successful bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism, sharing data, knowledge, expertise etc.
Further cooperation related to tourism and sharing experiences in making policies, regulation and standards in planning, implementation and development of tourism policy, encouraging the development of partnerships in the context of multilateral development programs and projects of international Financial Institutions, in which both participants have common interests, the statement added.
The event has also marked the presence of a high-level delegation consisting of Arto Haapea, Minister Counsellor, DHM and Ritva Koukku-ronde, Ambassador-Designate accompanied by the Finnish minister Timo Harakka and Secretary of Tourism Ministry Yogendra Tripathi.
