New Delhi (NVI): With 17,407 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the overall tally has climbed to 11,156,923, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.
The death count climbed to 1,57,435 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 89 lives during this period, the data showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.42 percent.
Currently, more than 1.08 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 10,826,075. The recovery rate now stands at 97.17 percent.
Meanwhile, there are 1,73,413 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country, which comprises 1.55 percent of the total infections.
Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 21,79,185 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 10,67,044 and Karnataka with 9,52,565 positive cases.
Maharashtra is now contributing more than half of fresh coronavirus infections in India, fanning fears of a second wave in the state.
The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,90,215), Tamil Nadu (8,52,967), Delhi (6,39,921) and Uttar Pradesh (6,03,788).
