India records 26,294 fresh Covid-19 cases, 118 fatalities

New Delhi (NVI): With 26,291 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the highest since December 19, the overall tally has climbed to 11,385,339, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,58,725 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 118 lives during this period, the data showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.41 percent.

Currently, more than 1.10 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,007,352, which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 96.86 percent.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 2,19,262 which now comprises 1.74 percent of the total infections.

Maharashtra reported 16,620 new cases, while Punjab had 1,492 cases.

With this, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 23,14,413 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 10,91,270 and Karnataka with 9,60,272 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,91,861), Tamil Nadu (8,59,726), Delhi (6,43,696) and Uttar Pradesh (6,05,290).
