New Delhi, Jul 9 (NVI): Indian Naval Sail Training Ship (STS) INS Sudarshini has concluded its port call at New York after participating in events marking the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence, the Indian Navy said on Thursday.

The indigenously built three-masted barque visited New York as part of the Indian Navy’s 10-month Lokayan 2026 transoceanic expedition and took part in the International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 celebrations.

A key highlight of the visit was INS Sudarshini’s participation in the Parade of Sail, during which the ship sailed past the Statue of Liberty and along the Hudson River alongside tall ships and naval vessels from several countries.

During its stay at Brooklyn, the vessel welcomed more than 1,000 visitors, including members of the Indian diaspora, local residents and maritime enthusiasts, offering them a glimpse into the Indian Navy’s sail training traditions and India’s maritime heritage.

The ship also hosted several dignitaries, including Consul General of India in New York Binaya Srikanta Pradhan and India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Parvathaneni Harish, who interacted with the crew and appreciated the vessel’s role in promoting maritime cooperation and bilateral ties.

According to the Navy, a state dinner was also organised on board, bringing together senior diplomats, military officials and other distinguished guests to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

Following the completion of its New York engagements, INS Sudarshini departed for Boston, where it will participate in the Sail Boston 2026 celebrations as part of its ongoing global voyage, the Navy said.
