Srinagar, May 4 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said the All India Inter-University Wushu Championship symbolises unity, sportsmanship and the strength of youth, describing it as a landmark event for the Union Territory and the country.
Addressing participants, Sinha welcomed over 1,000 athletes from more than 150 universities, inviting them to experience the hospitality and scenic beauty of Srinagar while competing in the spirit of excellence.
He said the championship was not merely about winning medals but about fostering character, discipline, endurance and mutual respect among young athletes.
Highlighting the role of sports in nation-building, the Lieutenant Governor said such events bring together youth from diverse cultures, languages and regions, strengthening the idea of unity in diversity.
“When athletes step onto the mat, they speak a common language — of courage, fair play and respect,” he said.
Referring to the ongoing anti-drug campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha urged participants to act as ambassadors against substance abuse and promote a drug-free society.
He also encouraged athletes to use social media platforms to spread awareness by sharing short videos and messages supporting the anti-drug campaign.
Describing the championship as a platform to build lasting friendships, Sinha said it should be remembered not just for competition but for the bonds it creates and the unity it reinforces, wishing all participants success.(NVI)
