Srinagar, Aug 18 (NVI) : Janata Dal United (JDU) President for Jammu and Kashmir, G.M. Shaheen, has officially announced that the party will participate in the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. This declaration marks a significant step in the party’s involvement in the political landscape of the region.
In addition to outlining the party’s electoral strategy, Shaheen used the occasion to advocate for the release of stone pelters and political prisoners in the region. He asserted that many of these individuals have been detained on insubstantial grounds, and their continued imprisonment poses a barrier to lasting peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The JDU is committed to justice and the well-being of the local population,” Shaheen stated. “We have taken a substantial step by submitting a list of 840 stone pelters from South Kashmir, requesting that their detention be revoked.
