New Delhi (NVI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today inaugurated the national capital’s first plasma bank at state-run Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) for treatment of Covid-19 patients. The CM has appealed to all those who can donate plasma to come forward and help others.

The plasma bank, first of its kind in the country, has been set up at ILBS in south Delhi.

Addressing a virtual media briefing CM Kejriwal said, “The plasma bank is starting from today. It is the first plasma bank in the country to treat corona. Now people will not have much problem for plasma.”

“Any Covid-19 patient, who recovered from the disease 14 days back, is eligible to donate plasma. The donor should weight at least 50 kgs and in 18-60 age group,” Kejriwal said while laying down the eligibility criteria for plasma donors.

“Our doctors will then get in touch with you with the eligibility criteria”, he added

The chief minister further issued numbers – 1031 and 8800007722 where people can contact for the donation of plasma to save the lives of COVID-19 patients.

Plasma therapy involves taking antibodies from the blood of a COVID-19 recovered person and transfusing those into a coronavirus infected patient to help kick-start the immune system to fight the infection.

With over 89,000 total cases, Delhi has the highest number of cases in India after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Over 2,000 people have died of the disease in the capital.
